Experience in the Sahara

So I knew when I started this trip that we would be traveling into the Sahara on camel to camp out but I had no idea what it would be like! We reached the desert late in the day on Tuesday! We each got placed on a camel and then we headed out into the Sahara to watch the sunset!

After we saw the sunset we gathered around on these great cushions in the camp!

We actually had lights and flushing toilets in the camp which was amazing! We were served dinner and had tents to sleep in! We enjoyed dinner and then we listened to some great music!

We slept in our tents and then we got up really early so we could get on our camels and see the sunrise!

The experience was utterly amazing! I honestly can’t believe that I spent the night in the Sahara Desert!!!

Walking Tour of Fes

Today we didn’t get started until around 9. We got on the bus and drove to the Palace near the old Jewish Quarter.

Once we went through the Jewish Quarter we got back on the bus and drove up to a forge to see the views of the city. The view was utterly amazing!

Then we took some pictures of us.

After the forge we traveled to a ceramics factory where we got to see the process of how they are made in Morocco. All thebwork is done by hand.

Once we finished there, we started goimg through the oldest part of the city of Fes. The streets were so narrow in places that you had to walk single file.

Next we walked all through the market.

While we were in the market we visited a tannery and a weaving place.

By 5 o’clock we are all pretty tired but it was a great day!

Casablanca to Fes

We started off the morning in Casablanca. After breakfast, we got in our van snd headed toward the ruins and our lunch destinstion. On the way to the ruins we stopped at a small bakery and coffee shop to use the restroom and have a snack.

We ate lunch at a coop that houses a charity that supports women in Morocco. The charity teaches women skills for independence and helps those who are going through a divorce. After lunch we headed to the ruins.

These pictures were all taken at the Roman ruins of Volubilis.

After the ruins we were back in the van headed to Fes. After we reached Fes we had about a two hour break at the hotel and then we went to a Moroccan Party with lots of entertainment.

Needless to say it was a great day

Travel to Morocco

So mom and I took this picture atbthe airport while we were waiiting for our plane to Madrid. The plane ride to Madrid was long and we were on the very last row of the plane which wadnt very fun! We made it to the airport and then we had to walk forever to get into the airport from the plane. I honestly wasn’t sure my mom was going to make it! Then we had around two hours before we boarded our plane to Casablanca, Morocco. The plane ride to Morocco was much shorter and we finally arrived in Morocco Saturday around 11:45am! We went through customs and then we caught a taxi to the hotal Kenzi Basma Hotel where we would spend our first night. The taxi ride was a bit insane because the driver drove around 120 kph and he was weaving in and out of traffic the whole time. We made it safely. After being up for over 24 hours we were finally ablebto take a shower and rest. We got to meet our group later that night! We went to dinner together at a restaurant called Les Fluers. I had a mushroom omelette.

Last night I was exhausted but I still stayed up for awhile and read. Overall we had a relatively easy trip!

I am officially less than a week away from spring break. I am taking full advantage of my break this year because I leave on a flight to Morocco on Friday. My mom and I leave around 4:40 pm and then we have a two hour layover in Madrid so we will finally reach Casablanca, Morocco in the late morning of March the 10th. We have been planning this trip since Thanksgiving and it is so hard to believe that it is finally here. We will be traveling all over Morocco and we will end up in Marrakesh on the 16th.  We leave Marrakesh on the evening of the 17th. We will spend the night in Madrid and then head back home the next morning. It will be so great to get away from home and especially work. I have been so stressed out with work lately that I can’t wait to be away from that place for a week.  As soon as I get home I am going to have to start looking for another job because I just don’t think I can keep doing the almost an hour long compute for another year. Next year will be my daughter’s last year of high school and I want to be closer to home so that I don’t miss anything.

I was hoping that I might see my ex this weekend but instead of seeing him I haven’t even talked to him. I leave in just a few days and I was really hoping I would see him again but I don’t think that’s going to happen after all. We had such a great week last week and now he’s distancing himself again. I really wish I knew what was going on in that head of his. Maybe it will be good for me to be unavailable for awhile.
